Christine Magee

Christine Magee is the president
and co-founder of Sleep Country Canada, the number one specialty
retailer of mattresses in Canada, with 100 stores across the
country.
This year, Sleep Country Canada
is celebrating some very exciting business milestones - more than
a decade in business and the opening of its 100th
store.
After graduating from University
of Western Ontario with an honour's degree in business in 1982,
Christine entered the world of finance. She held progressive
management positions first with Continental Bank and then with
National Bank. Christine and her two partners, Steve Gunn and Gord
Lownds, founded Sleep Country Canada in 1994. As a businessperson
and a woman in their target market, Christine knew that
Sleep Country's concept of revolutionizing the customer's
experience was a breakthrough idea - and she hasn't looked back
since.
With almost 700 employees in
eight major markets across the nation, Sleep Country Canada was
recently ranked one of the top 50 companies to work for in Canada
by the Globe and Mail and Hewitt Associates. The company
was also recently inducted into the Marketing Hall of Legends.
Christine is a champion of the
many charitable initiatives supported by Sleep Country such as the
Donated Bed Program, Give A Kid A Coat,
Backpack for Kids and Basics for Babies.
She believes strongly in sharing
knowledge and staying involved in the community. She is frequently
asked to speak at conferences, business associations, chambers of
commerce and schools about issues pertaining to leadership and
effective management strategies.
In addition to her charitable
work, Christine currently sits on the board at Sleep Country
Canada Inc., co-chairs the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation
Major Gifts Committee, and is on the Board of Directors of both
the Cott Corporation and St. Mildred's Lightbourne
School.
Christine lives in Toronto with
her husband and two children.
