Christine Magee
Christine
Magee graduated from Western University in 1982 with an Honour’s
Business degree. She began her career in 1982 as a commercial
accounts manager at Continental Bank and later, moved on to work
with National Bank as a senior manager of commercial corporate
lending until 1994.
In October of 1994, Sleep Country Canada was
founded by Christine Magee and her two partners, Steven Gunn and
Gordon Lownds. Since then, Sleep Country has gained tremendous
success, expanding to 89 stores in just ten years, with operations
in three provinces and employing over 600 people.
Sleep Country and Christine take pride in their
commitment to communities across Canada by supporting numerous
charities and community initiatives. Some of the programs in which
they are involved include:
• Donated
Bed Program - As part of their delivery service, Sleep
Country Canada provides the free removal of an old mattress. These
mattresses are then made available to charitable organizations
to assist those in need.
• Give a Kid a Coat Program - Along
with certain stations within each of their regions such as CHFI/680
News in Ontario and the Salvation Army, Sleep Country Canada is
proud to organize and be involved in this program.
• Backpack
for Kids - This program was created and is managed by
the Calgary Police Association to provide school supplies for
underprivileged children. Backpacks full of school supplies are
donated by citizens of Calgary and dropped off at any local Sleep
Country location. This program is run each year in August and
has provided needed supplies for many of Calgary’s students.
